NZSUK & NZWA Summer Drinks and UK Film Premiere of Signed, Theo Schoon
Summer Drinks and UK Film Premiere of Signed, Theo Schoon at the Cinema Museum Thursday 12th September, Welcome Drink at 18:30 and film at 19:20
Members and Guests: £24 - includes welcome drink, finger food and the film
The NZ Society and the NZ Women's Association invite you to join us in this unique venue to mingle and have drinks with other NZ group members, before viewing the UK premiere of this layered portrait of the complex Dutch artist, Theo Schoon, the influential outsider who changed the face of modern art in a conservative 1939 New Zealand.
When Theo Schoon arrived in Aotearoa in 1939, fresh from Europe, he might as well have "landed from another planet". This documentary from director/producer team Luit and Jan Bieringa (The Man in the Hat, The HeART of the Matter) is partly narrated by Schoon himself, a charismatic artist who wowed 1940s Christchurch. He rubbed shoulders with Colin McCahon and Rita Angus, and shared his love of Māori design with Gordon Walters. https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/signed-theo-schoon-2021?utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9CK8oJm6BsERc72bkNRsmMtg3G5Cr_nSFgdCT76L61J0wwPuMKsaA1M3NrAoEx5BLz8TdA131M6HBO0xYsuDmMKLsXnMXIril1qpMKWOpFC4vQz40&_hsmi=320672120&utm_content=320672120&utm_source=hs_email
